What is Following You?

Psalm 23:6a says, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life…”

Imagine someone following you around. Someone who causes you to feel unsure about things. Perhaps even a stalker.

Now, imagine goodness and mercy following you all the days of your life. For those of us who are followers of Christ, this verse in Psalm 23 teaches that surely both goodness and mercy are following after us.

Let’s take a look at both of these words.

Goodness can be defined as genuineness and moral excellence.

Mercy is compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone when it is within the giver’s power to punish or harm.

Now, I don’t know about you, but I am certain God’s goodness and mercy are following me around. His genuineness and forgiveness, rather than His punishment, are mine to enjoy. Aren’t you glad God does not pour out His wrath on us but rather His goodness and mercy?

And there you go!
