Truly a Comfort

Psalm 23:4c says, “your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

Now I get it that a staff could be used to pull me back to safety when the wooden hook is wrapped around me. That is comforting! But a rod to “nudge” me back in line doesn’t seem very comforting at all. Be assured, my friends, it is.

You see, the book of Hebrews teaches us that God’s discipline proves we are true sons of our Heavenly Father. As a matter of fact, scripture tells us that the Lord disciplines those He loves. “because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.” Hebrews 12:6

It is good for the Lord to put me on the right track. This is how I know I am His! I’m not suggesting that you sin to find out what the Lord’s discipline is, but if you do “slip and fall” into sin, pay attention to the Lord’s prodding - the still, small voice in your heart that aligns with scripture. When you hear it, turn back. Because He loves you! You are His child!

Imagine that His rod and His staff are truly a comfort! Oh the truth of His word.

And there you go!
