Generous Giving
Luke 6:38 says, "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
I believe Jesus is saying to be generous with what you have, and He will provide what you need. If you hold back from sharing with others, then how can God entrust you with more? Especially if we decide to hoard those things for ourselves.
If you and I see a brother in need and give to him when he needs it, God will help us in our own time of need.
In my Bible study, “Free to Obey”, I tell the story of a family who gave their mini-van to a missionary couple who were without transportation. God then provided the family with another van, which they promptly gave to another missionary couple who desperately needed it. They didn’t get brand new cars back, but they have never been without transportation. We hope to teach our kids to share. This story is an example of people who lived it.
If God says we should give, we must remember that everything we have is His. He will not forsake us. His blessings of provision, while not luxury, are promised to us.
And there you go!
