Taking Time to Rest

Psalm 23:2b says, “He makes me to lie down in green pastures".

When writing this, I am resting in quietness in a screened-in patio in Florida. Outside is green grass and plant life of all kinds. The grass is prickly, not soft and smooth as some sodded yards in Missouri or for that matter, on the golf courses in Florida.

But I still feel like I am relaxing. Lying down in calmness with my Shepherd to guide me as I rest tranquilly. Without one care in the world.

My mind needs rest, and yet I hurry a lot. Not thinking on what is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, of good report or what is of virtue or praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8). Instead, I think on what is imperative and urgent. And God just wants me to lie down in green pastures and let Him have all my cares. Depending on Him and not worrying about what is coming next.

What a difference it would make to a lost and dying world if they just saw us resting and confidently trusting in our good Shepherd, no matter what!

Now I am not saying let’s get lazy and not work. But let’s slow down and see what God truly has for us today! We might be missing life in the green pasture if we don’t take the time to lie down, allowing the Lord provide for our every need.

And there you go!
