What You See Isn't Always What You Get...Seriously!

Matthew 7:15 says, “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.”

My nephews enjoy dressing up as superheroes. My son, Taylor, also loved to dress up in costumes as a boy. I would venture to say Superman is still a favorite of his.

When he was a child, he used to put his superman costume underneath his suit to go to church. On one Sunday, he ripped open his shirt during the worship service to reveal the “S” emblem on his chest. The choir director about lost it as we were singing a hymn. I didn’t even know he had the costume on. He thought he really was superman in disguise. It’s easy to get caught up in disguises these days. That’s why Jesus said in Matthew 7:15 to watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.

The idea here is don’t believe everything you hear! Not everyone is trustworthy - there are those teachers, even in the spiritual realm, who would lead people astray.

That’s why it’s important to study and know God’s word for ourselves. If we believe a teaching is off-base, then we should check it out as the Spirit leads. Christ, Himself, should be our guide. He doesn’t have to disguise Himself - He’s the real deal!

Consider closely His teachings and you won’t be quickly fooled.

And there you go!
